After identifying an extended 1.3km-long mineralised corridor at its King Tamba project in WA’s Mid West, Krakatoa Resources has wasted no time in getting the drill bit out to prove up a lithium resource.

The 42km2 King Tamba project, 80km northwest of Mount Magnet, is within the Dalgaranga greenstone belt that’s known for enriched gold, zinc, base metals lithium and rare earth deposits related to pegmatites.

After it defined a maiden resource of 5Mt grading 0.14% rubidium with lithium credits in March this year, further exploration is realising the prospective lithium potential within the project area after rock chip sampling returned >1% Li and up to 186 parts per million (ppm) gallium.

Little-known gallium has been in the headlines lately after China announced export controls on the element and its cousin germanium – both used in semiconductors and high-technology equipment in a range of industries.

However, it’s the lithium that has recently caught KTA’s eye, after defining a 1.3km-long by 500m-wide mineralised zone including at the Wilsons prospect where 250m of continuous outcrop has been identified with results of up to 4.3% Li2O, 1.7% rubidium and 0.5% caesium.

“We are delighted to be drilling these high grade lithium zones. Its an exciting time for our shareholders to see what may be lurking sub surface.” executive chair Colin Locke told Stockhead

By August, Krakatoa Resources (ASX:KTA) had collected hundreds of soil samples across the tenement and submitted a program of works in preparation for drilling while it continued mapping targets.

The RC 1,200m drill program across 12-15 holes is targeting the Wilsons, Loader and MGM prospects and KTA expects these to be completed within the next 10 days.

All three prospects have previously returned high grade lithium rock chip results. Drill samples will be taken and submitted to a laboratory in Perth. Results will be reported when received.
