Brightstar Resources continues to expand its flagship Cork Tree Well resource, with new assay results from drilling showing mineralised lodes continue along strike from the current resource to the north.

The results from extensional RC drilling at Cork Tree Well, 36km from Laverton and near the Brightstar Resources (ASX:BTR) Brightstar Mill, show the ore body continues to be open at depth.

It means more drilling will be needed to find the edges of the mineralisation, which continues to grow.

Best results included:

  • 5m at 9.46g/t gold from 103m and 4m at 2.56g/t from 169m (BTRRC171)
  • 11m at 2.54g/t from 83m (BTRRC150); and,
  • 7m at 3.11g/t from 119m (BTRRC154).

That first result is the best drilled so far in the 31 hole, 4750m RC program.

Drilling for more

“Subsequent to the successful drilling program last year that did not find the extents of the project to the north and the ensuing re-interpretation of the model, it was incumbent on the company to investigate the northern part of the deposit where there is less drilling density,” BTR managing director Bill Hobba said.

“This round of drilling demonstrates further mineralisation continuity in this area that will likely improve the quality of the Resource when included in future models.”

It builds on successful drilling at the Delta 2 prospect to the north of Cork Tree Well, as well as the first drilling in 8 years at the 106,000oz Alpha system.

Further drilling required

BTR has more work to do, with the confirmation of the mineralisation in the wider spaced drilling meaning it will now have the opportunity to zero in on the potential resource in the northern part of the 252,100oz Cork Tree Well deposit.

More drilling will be needed to bring the section of the model to higher confidence, determine the continuity of the grade and identify the scale of the project.

That will include where the bottom of the lode might be, because it certainly hasn’t been found yet.

“There are few constraints at depth within the sections shown below and with some variability in grade there is potential that even sections closed off with 1 hole may open up again at depth or along strike assuming some “pinch and swell” morphology on the mineralised structure,” BTR said.

Brightstar says the continuation of the eastern lode as an offset or parallel lode of the main Cork Tree Well Lode has been ‘well confirmed’ with this round of drilling.

Holes drilled further north along strike of the main lode didn’t intersect the lode in a significant way, indicating it could be pinched out with mineralisation transferred to the eastern lode.

More drilling, including diamond drilling, is likely to be proposed for Cork Tree Well to “aggressively try and grow the size of the system”, initially focused on a thicker plunging shoot found in previous drilling.

These drillholes will also be planned to provide samples for metallurgical and geotechnical logging, after which BTR will be able to improve the current resource to reserve and begin a pre-feasibility process.
