Belararox has commenced base metals exploration at the historic Belara project in NSW as it looks to build on its maiden 5Mt zinc equivalent resource.

While Belararox’s (ASX:BRX) main game is the Toro–Malambo–Tambo (TMT) project in Argentinawhere it found significant highly protective Copper Porphyry targets and zinc, copper, lead, silver mineralisation (pathfinder elements indicating Copper Porphyry system) in historic drill results — MD Arvind Misra says the Belara project “remains an important feather in our project portfolio cap.”

Exploration across the 643sqkm project, in the mineral rich Lachlan Fold Belt, is focused on bolstering a previously announced maiden resource of 5Mt @ 3.41% Zinc equivalent (ZnEq) at the project͛’s Belara and Native Bee deposits.

The company is now exploring two recently granted tenements at Belara. This will include field mapping and ground truthing of historical workings (shafts, pits and drill holes) along four high-priority targets along the Ben Buckley structural trend, host to the historical Ben Buckley copper, lead, silver and zinc mine.

“The commencement of on ground exploration activities at our recently granted exploration licences is an important step towards building a significant inferred resource,” Misra says.

“Belararox maintains focused on this exciting project, and we look forward to updating the market as exploration progresses.”

Four targets flagged at Ben Buckley

The company has identified four additional targets with historical workings and anomalous mineralisation for further exploration at Belara including:

  1. Ben Buckley Mine (copper, lead, zinc, gold, and silver);
  2. Governors Hill Mine (copper, lead, zinc, gold and silver);
  3. Goolma Workings (gold); and
  4. Quartz vein 3.5km NW of Goolma (gold).

The historical Ben Buckley mine sits on a coincident soil, magnetic, and chargeability anomaly which has not been adequately tested to date.

Notably, rock chip assays from 35 samples collected by previous explorers at Ben Buckley produced a reported average grade of 0.61% copper and 0.50% zinc, with peak assay values of 4.60% copper and 1.45% zinc (these are rock chip assays from historical reports and have not been prepared in accordance with the JORC 2012 Code).

Land access has now been established at Ben Buckley and field mapping has commenced.

Rock chip sampling the next step

Along with the field mapping and ground truthing of historical shafts, pits and drill holes along the Ben Buckley structural trend, the company is also undertaking rock chip sampling to verify the assay results from previous explorers.

The company also recently flagged Lithium-Caesium-Tantalum (LCT) pegmatite potential at the Bullabulling project in WA, where the plan is to drill selective targets based on a LCT pathfinder prospectivity in the 3rd or 4th quarter of 2023.
