228 pegmatites!? Summit’s Castor lithium project is teeming with sweet targets

Summit’s recent interpretation of multispectral imagery has returned 228 potential pegmatite outcrops in the eastern half of the Castor property in Quebec’s James Bay area.
In July, Summit Minerals (ASX:SUM) acquired 80% of the 118km2 Castor project in the prolific James Bay Region of Québec, Canada.
The project vendors, experienced geologist Jody Dahrouge of DG Resource Management and business entrepreneur Kal Malhi, retain 20%.
Castor has never been explored for lithium and comprises 232 mineral claims within the northern end of the Yasinski Lake greenstone belt, which hosts lithium mineralisation at Ophir Gold’s Radis Lithium Project (TSX-V: OPHR) and Q2 Metals’ Mia Lithium Project (TSX-V: QTWO), southwest of Castor.
Around 228 pegmatite outcrops have now been located within the claim boundaries by GeoCloud Analytics, a LiDAR survey and project management company.
GeoCloud Analytics were engaged to source, process, and interpret Sentinel-2 Multispectral Imagery for identification of outcropping potential Li-pegmatite within Castor, which located potential outcrops for field reconnaissance, mapping, and sampling in the early exploration phase.
SUM says multiple interpreted pegmatite dykes in the eastern half of the Castor property demand immediate attention.
The orientation of some the dykes contrasts with the north-northeast structural trend visible across the property, while others align in direction, reflecting known spodumene-bearing pegmatite dykes found elsewhere in the James Bay area.
Several distinctive mineral occurrences
SUM exploration manager Jonathan King says GeoCloud’s work expands upon earlier work completed by Dirt Exploration and has resulted in several distinctive mineral occurrence clusters on the project’s western limb that potentially reflect pegmatite and lithium-bearing minerals.
“Several targets from the two work programs overlap within the project’s central hinge, providing confidence to the targets as each consultant’s approach was independent and, yet derived the same interpreted target,” he says.
What’s coming up?
Summit plans to conduct helicopter-supported property traverses to map and collect rock chips from the pegmatite occurrences and the interpreted Sentinel and SAR targets.
This work is expected to be completed this quarter.
