Initial analysis of historical data at Fin Resources’ Ross lithium project will mean boots on the ground at seven claims in James Bay during this year’s upcoming Canadian summer season.
The explorer reviewed historical mapping by the Canadian government and a private explorer that was looking for uranium, both of which noted a high frequency of outcropping pegmatites, coarse grained pegmatiitic material and Tourmaline was logged within one outcrop
Several of the rock chip samples reviewed have been identified to carry elevated amounts of tantalum and caesium and anomalous Li2O – a sign that fertile LCT pegmatites are likely present across the strike of the Project.
High resolution satellite imagery analysis by consultant Dr Neil Pendock confirmed this prospectivity and now the priority for FIN Resources (ASX:FIN) will be to complete field confirmation and follow up.
There were also REE hits associated with the review, after several samples returned cerium above the upper detection limit of 500 parts per million (ppm).
Project coverage is across a strike length of underexplored greenstone belt more than 30km in length, east of the neighbouring Whabouchi lithium deposit that has a 36.6 million tonne (mt) resource at 1.3% Li2O.
With all these promising findings, FIN has decided to stake another seven claims that appear highly prospective for LCT pegmatites, covering open ground southeast of Ross.
FIN director Jason Bontempo said the Ross lithium project had significantly exceeded expectations since it bought the project last month.
“Further desktop review including compilation and overlay of the results of historical work and recent satellite imagery completed, now presents the Ross lithium project to be highly prospective for lithium and REE mineralisation,” Bontempo said.
“This work has identified a significant number of possible pegmatite outcrops which FIN will immediately begin planning fieldwork to commence in the third quarter.”
The planned fieldwork includes further compilation of historical exploration data followed by detailed field mapping with satellite imagery, outcrop sampling and geochemical sampling, which is expected to be completed during the upcoming Canadian summer field season in Q3 this year.
