  • High grade niobium has been proved up from the Lyons 12 and 13 prospects, where maiden resource estimation is underway
  • Similarities in mineralisation with Lynas and Hastings’ own REE projects
  • More assays pending

Infill drilling at Lanthanein’s Lyons 12 and 13 prospects in the WA Gascoyne has extended high grade rare earths and niobium mineralisation to 1.2km and counting. Estimation of a maiden resource is now underway.

In 2021, Lanthanein (ASX:LNR) secured a couple of WA rare earths and high purity alumina projects including Lyons, which adjoins the Hastings Technology Metals (ASX:HAS) world-class ‘Yangibana’ deposit.

Yangibana is set to be the next REE producer outside of China.

Lyons also contains significant niobium, which is mainly used to make steel better, but also has growing uses in lithium-ion batteries, intelligent glass, solar panels, 5G tech, and nuclear energy.

With 10,407 metres of drilling completed this year from a total of 13,917 metres completed to date, Lanthanein is now eyeing a maiden resource at the Lyons 12 and 13 prospects — the first of many discoveries the company expects to make at the project.

Lyons 12 & 13 Prospects now 1.2km long, maiden resource incoming

Multiple hits to 0.76% total rare earth oxides (TREO) containing up to 50% NdPr and up to 1.22% niobium were intercepted in this latest round of drilling at Lyons 12 and 13.

Significant new intercepts include:

  • LYRC135: 1m at 0.76% TREO and 1.22% Nb2O5 (45% NdPr:TREO) from 33m,
  • LYRC138: 2m @ 0.57% TREO and 0.18% Nb2O5 (50% NdPr:TREO) from 14m,
  • LYRC141: 2m @ 0.66% TREO and 0.49% Nb2O5 (46% NdPr:TREO) from 51m,
  • LYRC140: 3m @ 0.36% TREO and 0.63% Nb2O5 (39% NdPr:TREO) from 34m,
  • and LYRC133: 1m at 0.36% TREO and 1.09% Nb2O5 (42% NdPr:TREO) from 53m

These 1 – 5 metre widths of rare earths mineralised ironstones at Lyons prospects are analogous to Hastings Simons Find, Frasers and Bald Hill deposits, ~2.5km away, the company says.

“The REE results of this current round of infill drilling of the high-grade mineralised ironstones which outcrop over 1.2km strike at Lyons 12 and 13, demonstrates the economic potential the prospect,” Lanthanein technical director Brian Thomas says.

“This current round of drilling will now allow us to begin a maiden Mineral Resource Estimation at Lyons 12 & 13.”

An exciting pipeline of drill targets

“With 10,407 metres of drilling completed this year from a total of 13,917 metres completed to date, we look forward to many more new discoveries,” Thomas says.

Two 450m deep diamond holes – co funded with $200,000 from the DMIRS – targeted the potential for large tonnage REE carbonites similar to Lynas Corporation’s (ASX:LYC) Mt Weld deposit.

“Diamond drilling of the outer magnetic rim of two large-scale ferrocarbonatite targets successfully intersected its intended magnetic source,” Thomas says.

“Core has been logged and sampled and we are currently awaiting assay results.”

Meanwhile, there remains an exciting pipeline of drill targets recently discovered along the Y42 Splay ironstone where 4.19% TREO and 0.9% Nb2O5 were assayed in outcrop rock samples.

“As well, there are numerous outcropping ironstone targets delineated from satellite imagery and geophysical targets undercover requiring additional drill testing,” Thomas says.
