  • MTM intersects up to 1.3% TREO at the Pomme project, adjacent to the world-class Montviel rare earths-niobium deposit
  • Narrow zones of higher-grade mineralisation >1% (10,000ppm) TREO were also intersected
  • MTM’s technical team is now focusing on compiling a 3-dimensional model of the Pomme carbonatite with more assays to come

Three drill holes have intersected further significant total rare earth oxide (TREO) mineralisation up to 1.3% during diamond drilling at the Pomme project in Québec.

MTM Critical Metals’ (ASX:MTM) Pomme project in Québec, Canada, features similar geology to the nearby, world-class Montviel deposit owned by Geomega Resources, which boasts a 266Mt resource for 1.45% TREO and 0.14% niobium.

The company believes the project, which is shaping up to be a “very large” +2km2 rare earths-niobium system, contains an “economic resource of some scale”.

Pomme is a carbonatite intrusion, a specified class of rare earth deposits which tend to bring high grades and large tonnes.

A similar example is Lynas Corporation’s (ASX:LYN) Mount Weld deposit, one of the largest of its kind on Earth, with total reserves estimated at 19.5Mt at a grade of 8.5%.

Best drill hits

New diamond drill hole assays – completed in previously untested areas – have returned up to 1.3% (or 13,000ppm) TREO, confirming REE and niobium mineralisation over broad intervals.

Drill hole POM-23-06 was intersected to 225m depth with the best intersection uncovering 1.5m at 0.74% TREO and 0.03% niobium from 76m.

The second POM-23-08 drill hole was drilled into the magnetic core of the Pomme carbonatite complex.

The hole intersected a broad zone of mineralisation which extends from 122m to 271m down hole, as well as a number of higher-grade zones, returning a best intersection of 1.5m at 1.31% TREO and 0.06% niobium from 215m.

More assays to come

“These new assays results provide us with further information of the geology and distribution of rare earth and niobium mineralisation within the Pomme carbonatite complex,” MTM managing director Lachlan Reynolds says.

“The assays follow encouraging results previously from the first five holes and we are still eagerly awaiting assays for the remaining five holes from the 13-hole campaign completed at Pomme.

“Our technical team will be putting together a 3-dimensional model of the Pomme carbonatite and evaluating the most prospective part of the target for coherent zones of high-grade mineralisation,” he says.

“These areas will be prioritised for further drilling follow-up.”
