Outcrop mapping and review of historic soil geochemistry uncovered multiple new targets at Greentech Metals’ West Pilbara projects, “expanding the scope for additional discoveries” near Andover.
Greentech Metals’ (ASX:GRE) West Pilbara tenements include the Osborne JV – a joint venture held with Artemis Resources (ASX:AR1) – and the adjoining Ruth Well project.
Following Azure’s (ASX:AZS) success at its Andover project, which culminated in a 100Mt and 240Mt exploration target at 1-1.5% Li20, GRE decided to take a closer look at the lithium potential on its ground.
Scouring available data, GRE came across evidence of lithium bearing rocks.
The Northern LCT pegmatite, which includes the Kobe prospect, sits within the company’s Ruth Well project tenements and extends eastward into the Osborne JV tenements where previous rock chip samples have returned assay results of up to 1.8% Li2O.
More results from these reconnaissance rock chip samples have returned further impressive lithium grades of up to 3.6% Li2O in the Southern LCT trend.
A review of historic soil geochemical data and the results of geological mapping has now confirmed the Northern and Southern LCT pegmatite trends whilst significantly expanding the extent of lithium mineralisation in the project areas.
Unlocking the potential of lithium with drilling ahead
GRE executive director Thomas Reddicliffe says the company’s technical team is continuing to systematically unlock the potential of its West Pilbara lithium footprint.
“This latest work has confirmed the Northern and Southern LCT pegmatite trends, whilst also demonstrating the strong likelihood for additional discoveries to be hosted within the respective project area,” he says.
“Extensive historic soil sampling complements the rock chip sampling completed to date which has yielded consistently high lithium grades and gives us significant confidence as we move quickly towards our maiden drilling program.”
Upcoming exploration work
Rock chip samples taken to date have been dispatched to the ALS Global laboratory in Perth for analysis.
The results for these samples will be reported when the analytical results are received.
Meanwhile, Greentech is continuing to research and review historic datasets with a view to potentially identifying new lithium pegmatite trends, and extensions to the known trends, within the broader Ruth Well and Osborne Project areas.
Field crews have been mobilised to site to undertake the following exploration activities in the lead up to maiden drilling – mapping, ground reconnaissance, rock chip and soil sampling, and drill target identification.
