Green Technology Metals has announced a maiden Mineral Resource Estimate (MRE) of 4.5Mt at 1.01% Li20 and 110ppm Ta2O5 over the first 1.5km strike of the McCombe deposit – part of the 20km-wide Root Lithium project in Ontario, Canada.

Root is around 200km west of the company’s flagship Seymour project, and brings the total mineral resources across both lithium projects to a solid 14.4 million tonnes.

Exploration at Root has initially focused on four target areas: McCombe, Morrison, Root Bay and Root Lake. However, a large area surrounding these targets remains underexplored and highly prospective for new LCT pegmatite target areas.

“This is just the beginning for the Root Project and we are very pleased with the outcome of our maiden Mineral Resource Estimate at Root incorporating just five months exploration at our McCombe deposit with further extension potential,” Green Technology Metals (ASX:GT1) CEO Luke Cox said.

Further resource growth potential

No drilling from the Morrison or Root Bay projects has been incorporated into the MRE for McCombe, so the company is confident there’s ‘significant’ potential for further resource growth across the larger Root project area.

“GT1 has now commenced drilling at two additional target areas, Morrison and Root Bay, which have both continued to intercept significant spodumene mineralisation,” Cox said.

“We remain focussed on delivering further high-grade resource growth over 2023.”

The plan is for further diamond drilling to continue at McCombe in parallel to the current programs running at Morrison and Root Bay – which now form a 20km corridor of prospective ground for further resource development.

GT1 plans to utilise the upcoming field season to expand the exploration area to the northern half of Root which was acquired in 2022 and consists of 2993ha (29.9km2) of prime lithium real estate within the Lake St Joseph greenstone belt within the Uchi Domain.
