  • More diamond drilling now underway at the Chubb lithium project

  • Assays pending for remaining holes in maiden drill program

Burley has kicked off another round of diamond drilling at its Chubb lithium project in Quebec, Canada, barely a month after completing its maiden program.

Chubb is in an established lithium province just 10km from Canada’s only operating lithium mine, North America Lithium (NAL), which is owned by Sayona Mining and Piedmont Lithium.

Burley Minerals (ASX:BUR) acquired the project in February, before rapidly commencing its maiden diamond drilling program in April this year.

The company was able to complete 14 holes for 2,789m at the Chubb Central Main Dyke before wildfires and machinery operation bans halted operations.

Drilling then recommenced in early July and the program, which totalled just under 5,200m, was completed in late July.

This drill program consistently intersected thick, lithium-bearing spodumene pegmatites with widths of between 4m and 13m, confirming the strong continuity of mineralisation both along strike and at depth.

Assays from the program are due out shortly.

“I am looking forward to receiving the assay results shortly from the drilling program completed in July,” managing director Stewart McCallion said.

“It is exciting the team continues to grow and define the spodumene mineralisation in these highly prospective mineral claims, having only completed the acquisition of the Chubb Lithium Project in February this year in the in the Tier 1 lithium province of Québec, Canada.”

New drilling already underway

Meanwhile, Burley has started a new program of up to 4,000m of diamond drilling to test for extensions to the Chubb Central Main Dyke along strike and at depth, as well as for spodumene in mapped parallel pegmatite dykes.

Importantly, the drilling will test the Main Dyke to the south where the Main Dyke widths improve, and minimal historical drilling has been noted.

Additionally, the company has completed the ambient noise tomography (ANT) geophysics survey and is assessing the data, which will be used to target extensions of the known pegmatite dykes and identify parallel dykes to the east of the mineralised zone.

“I am very pleased with the fantastic progress our Burley Minerals’ team has made at the Chubb lithium project since the machinery bans were lifted in early July outside of Val d’Or, Québec,” McCallion said.

“Our geologists, drilling contractor and core shed operators responded rapidly and efficiently to complete the drilling and implement the ANT geophysics survey.

“They worked diligently to complete two ANT surveys covering the known Chubb mineralised zone, strike extensions and over the eastern parallel target zone.

“The geophysics survey equipment was pulled from the field last week, and the drill rig was mobilised and has set up on the first hole of the latest 3,000 to 4,000m program.”

Nearology backed by proven lithium intercepts

Besides NAL, the lithium province also hosts several emerging projects in the region, including the Authier lithium project, with resources of 17Mt at 1.01% Li2O reported.

Whilst this nearology is positive for Chubb, the company’s previous work has already proven that lithium-bearing spodumene is present within the pegmatite at the Central Main Dyke.

Initial assays from the first diamond drill program returned results such as 10.1m at 1.03% Li2O from 170m (CLP08a) and 9m at 1.34% Li2O from 92m (CLP003).
