Southern Silver Exploration (SSV.V) has released the assay results from the final four holes drilled on the North Felsite and North Skarn targets on the Cerro Las Minitas project in Mexico’s Durango state. Cerro Las Minitas is Southern Silver’s flagship project and after several years of drilling and expanding the resource base, SSV finally published the results of a Preliminary Economic Assessment in the third quarter of this year.

While that PEA is a very useful tool to work with and to understand how the project could be developed, it’s important to remember Cerro Las Minitas hasn’t been fully drilled off and exploration activities are ongoing. This should further increase the current resource base and have a positive impact on the tonnes of zinc and ounces of silver that will effectively end up in the mine plan.

The recently released four holes were targeting a 400 meter long area which wraps around the eastern and northern perimeter of the Central Intrusion and the area also links the Mina La Bocona and Skarn Front Deposits. Southern Silver wanted to drill-test the continuity of the mineralization between La Bocona and Skarn, and completed in excess of 11,000 meters of drilling in 25 holes, and some of those holes were pretty deep (400-450 meters below surface) in order to get a better understanding of the mineralization. Three of the four last holes did contain mineralization

These fresh results will be included in an upcoming resource update which should be ready in the first quarter of next year. It will be interesting to see the total amount of tonnes Southern Silver will be able to add in the next update as it will likely once again validate Cerro Las Minitas as one of the largest polymetallic projects in Mexico owner by a junior.
