Sultan Resources has confirmed the prospectivity of its Kulin Hill nickel project with the final assays from a deep stratigraphic diamond hole, where it is chasing nickel, copper and PGEs along the same mobile belt as Chalice Mining’s legendary Julimar discovery.

Sultan (ASX:SLZ) is zeroing in on a massive 2.2km long by 0.9km wide magnetic anomaly representing a major ultramafic intrusion beneath a salt lake reserve at the West Yilgarn project near Lake Grace in WA.

Despite being granted access to the reserve, heavy rainfall has prevented it from drilling into the prospective nickel targets beneath.

But drill hole SLGDD001 has given plenty of encouragement for when it is able to undertake key exploration activities on the salt lake.

Analysis of the final geochemical assay results show Sultan’s drilling team found the target geology, a layered ultramafic intrusion, intersecting it from the weathered surface to 256m downhole, with a thick 40m layer of felsic gneiss from 153.5m.

Not only did the hole clip the edges of the main magnetic target, where water levels remain too high, but it hit elevated levels of platinum, palladium, copper and sulphur in a sheared lens of mafic-ultramafic rock over 6.8m.

Located below the main ultramafic unit from 289.7m downhole, the anomalous results suggest there were potential sulphides deposited from a proximal ultramafic source.

That provides plenty of promise for the main target at Kulin Hill, where Sultan is chasing prospects similar in nature to Julimar, regarded as the largest nickel sulphide discovery in Australia over the past two decades.

While access issues have placed physical restrictions on how Sultan approached the target, those will be a thing of the past once water levels have subsided, with the 489.4m long stratigraphic hole intersecting the priority zone’s northwest edge.

Partnered with historical diamond drilling from its southern edge, reconnaissance rock chip sampling near the historical drilling site and aircore drilling, the results provide further confidence it hosts a large ultramafic with nickel-bearing potential.
