Dynamic’s nickel drilling hits it out of the park on the very first try

Dynamic’s hunt for nickel at its multi-commodity Widgiemooltha project in WA is off to a positive start with three of the five holes in its first-ever drill program returning significant nickel intersections.

Hole WDR002 returned a 15m intersection grading 1.86% nickel from a down-hole depth of just 27m including 6m at 2.4% nickel while WDR003 struck two zones of 15m at 1.11% nickel from 30m and 12m at 1.58% nickel from 48m including 3m at 2% nickel.

Notably, the thick widths and high-grade tenor encountered compare favourably with historical drilling by Mincor Resources in the late 2000s, which returned results such as 8m at 1.3% nickel from 26m and 2m at 1.9% nickel from 26m.

While exploration at Dordie Far West for Kambalda-type nickel sulphide mineralisation is still at an early stage, the results indicate that Dynamic Metals (ASX:DYM) is on the right track.

Kambalda komatiite type massive sulphide mineralisation is interpreted to occur where the base of the komatiite stratigraphy is in contact with the underlying basalt, known as the ‘basal contact’.

Outstanding result

“Returning thick and high-grade nickel intersections from our first five holes is an outstanding result from our maiden drill program at DFW,” managing director Karen Wellman said.

“This is an excellent start to our first exploration campaign and we will prioritise our follow-up drill program, with an aim to further extend these intercepts at the Widgiemooltha Project.”

Keeping the momentum going

While the results from the first of four permitted drill programs at Widgiemooltha are certainly encouraging, Dynamic is certainly not sitting on its haunches and will carry out detailed analysis on 1m split samples – compared to the 3m composite assays reported – to confirm the nickel mineralisation model and determine its follow-up drill program.

A 6,000m aircore drill program is also underway at its Lake Percy project in Western Australia’s southeastern Goldfields region.

This is designed to obtain fresh rock samples of the bedrock geology for geochemical analysis in areas of interest for nickel mineralisation as well as additional information on the nature and extent of pegmatites in the region.
