Western Yilgarn has decided to expand Boodanoo on the back of strategic Auger geochemistry work that confirms a ~2km long LCT pegmatite target.

The lithium, caesium and tantalum (LCT) hits are located in the current Boodanoo exploration license, which currently covers ~39km2 – and it looks like the strike continues, prompting Western Yilgarn (ASX:WYX) to immediately apply for another exploration license.

This will increase the project area by a whopping 30.77% to 51km2.

519 auger chemistry holes were drilled upon the completion of the Phase 2 geochemical program and a ~2km long, ~1km wide LCT anomaly was defined in the southwest of the project area.

Boodanoo is located along an interpreted regional north-northeast (NNE) trending fault within the Yilgarn Craton where geologists say the rocks are granite with a major regional shear zone passing through the centre of the tenement.

WYX says there’s also interpreted granite to the south and ultramafic units interpreted to the south and east.

Exploration strategy

WYX chair Peter Lewis says it’s exciting to see Western Yilgarn’s first-principles, new-generation exploration strategy once again paying off, this time at Boodanoo.

“Our exploration strategy of delivering early success in a program has been repeated and validates the model first evidenced at our Bulga project,” Lewis says.

Auger drilling in May at Bulga – east of Boodanoo – highlighted extensive nickel mineralisation, prompting the explorer to expand the project area.

Last month, desktop reviews of its Julimar West tenements identified several exciting targets, including the potential for it to host an extension to Chalice Mining’s (ASX:CHN) Gonneville intrusion as part of its Julimar nickel project next door.

“Western Yilgarn remains focused on best-in-class exploration across its portfolio of projects at the lowest possible cost,” Lewis says.

“Our Julimar West and Bulga projects have delivered plenty of positive news to shareholders, and I trust Boodanoo will follow suit.”

WYX says it’s reviewing all results as it plans for the next stage of exploration.
