Maiden drilling is underway at the greenfields Highway project, where Taiton Resources believes it is on the trail of a large mineral system.

Taiton Resources’ (ASX:T88) main game is the 2930sqkm Highway project  in South Australia, where magmatic hydrothermal mineralisation identified at shallow depth is interpreted to have formed at the same time as the world-class Olympic Dam deposit.

Discovered by Western Mining back in 1975, the nearby Olympic Dam is considered one of the world’s largest iron-oxide-copper-gold (IOCG) deposits and the fourth largest copper deposit globally.

It is one of several world class mineral deposits in the region, where Taiton has a significant and underexplored landholding.

Priority target #1: Merino

T88 is taking a systemic approach to exploring Highway’s 3.7km by 2.6km Merino prospect.

T88 says the 3000m drill program at Merino – designed to identify potential mineralisation and get a handle on the geological setting — is now five holes in and is “going as planned”.

The campaign should be completed within three weeks, with first assays enroute to the lab this week.

If initial core looks promising, T88 has the provision to expand the program.

Proof is in the drilling

To say that the entire T88 team is excited is an understatement, executive director Noel Ong says.

“The time has come for us to provide evidence to support our belief in the Highway project,” he says.

“Our exploration work prior to this drilling stage has shown strong evidence that our original theory of uncovering a large undiscovered fertile mineral system is valid.

“What is most important, is that the exploration team has ticked all the boxes that is required to support our strong faith in making a discovery.

“The work has shown without question that there is a mineral system at Merino. The start of the drilling will begin the process of putting the discovery pieces together.”
