Going from exploration to production is no easy feat. With its maiden gold pour, Classic Minerals has thrust itself into the ranks as Australia’s newest miner.

Classic Minerals’ (ASX:CLZ) ability to get a tune out of its smaller, highly efficient Gekko Systems advanced gravity separation circuit at its flagship Kat Gap project has played an instrumental role in the company becoming Australia’s newest gold producer.

Classic’s flagship Kat Gap gold project is ~170km south of Southern Cross in WA and has an indicated resource of 20,488oz @ 2.5g/t and an inferred resource of 60,139oz @ 2.19g/t.

With strong grades and near-surface mineralisation, first pour at Kat Gap is symbolic of CLZ’s trajectory to full-scale production.

Staged production

The Gekko gravity circuit can process 100,000tpa and is a precursor to the integration of the Carbon-in-Leach (CIL) process, which is currently under construction and installation as part of Stage 2 of the project.

Results of previous “bench scale” metallurgical tests reported a 5% mass recovery and gravity gold recoveries of 65-75%, however, once the CIL process is completed, CLZ says recoveries are projected to be enhanced up to an impressive 98%.

This, says CLZ, will allow it to upscale the milling to achieve a throughput of 200,000tpa.

Significant returns for our shareholders’

Classic CEO Dean Goodwin says first pour isn’t merely an achievement, but a groundbreaking hallmark.

“The transformation of our Kat Gap gold project, from exploration to mining and now to a gold-producing asset, symbolises the realisation of our aspirations and our team’s formidable spirit,” Goodwin says.

“Through our innovative approach to mining and processing techniques, we have ensured a proficient gold extraction process from the Kat Gap ores.

“Our current achievement not only fortifies our belief in the Kat Gap deposit’s high-grade nature but also promises significant returns for our shareholders.

“Classic is geared up to intensify production efforts, fine-tune its processing strategies, and identify methods to maximise yield from Kat Gap.

“This milestone represents a collective victory, and Classic remains unwavering in its commitment to enhance the value of Kat Gap for all stakeholders.”
