Great Western Exploration has kicked off follow-up RC drilling at its Firebird Gold Project, which it believes could contain another significant Youanmi Greenstone Belt resource.

On the back of a 3,040m aircore drilling program that confirmed a 3.7km long and 450m wide in-situ Ultrafine+ soil anomaly. Great Western Exploration (ASX:GTE) has the drillbit out again to further define Archean Greenstone hosted mineralisation..

An RC drill campaign has commenced to test below the anomalous, broad-spaced (400-1200m lines) aircore results from the Archean volcanic sediments and mafic units that  returned 2m at 1.20g/t gold from 42m hole GFB045 and 2m at 0.88g/t gold from 2m (GFB047) .

“Positive results from this program will guide an extensive drill program infilling the broad-spaced AC drilling across the large soil anomaly,” GTE says.

The company anticipates this follow-up program will wrap up early next month.

Success is potentially very intriguing given that Firebird is just 2.5km away from Western Gold Resources’ (ASX:WGR) Gold Duke Project which contains several JORC mineral resources.

Apart from concentrating on Firebird, the explorer is also looking to make a discovery across its other highly-prospective tenements in the Tier 1 mining jurisdiction of WA.

GTE is progressing a number of highly prospective projects  including the Fairbairn nickel-copper project, Atley Gold Project, Lake Way potash project, its Yerrida North JV with Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) and the Golden Corridor project.
