As part of a master plan to streamline its prospects into one big project portfolio, Brightstar Resources has started its planned drilling campaign at its Menzies gold project north of Kalgoorlie, WA.

5,000m of RC drill holes are underway across several highly prospective targets within the project area, including the Lady Irene and Aspacia lodes, with the idea of proving up a combined underground operation that encompasses the nearby Selkirk-First Hit deposit.

Regionally, Aspacia is along the same trend as the 192,000oz unmined Pericles resource ~1.5km away, and 500m due west of Selkirk-First Hit, which recorded historical production of ~205,000oz.

Several brownfield exploration targets, including Westralia, South Dump and Golden Dicks – within the Lady Shenton-Lady Harriet ‘link zone’ – will also be targeted with a small, focused RC drill campaign after the current resource definition program.

Following up

Brightstar Resources (ASX:BTR) said that within the ‘link zone’, previous drilling by Kingwest and earlier explorers identified several pods of near-surface medium-high grade oxide material, which may present opportunities for potential exploitation via open pit mining programs.

“We are excited to commence drilling at several locations in our Menzies gold project,” BTR MD Alex Rovira said.

“At Lady Irene, we are following up some amazing hits including a 39m intercept, whilst at Aspacia we are looking to build confidence in our geological model which suggests the high-grade 30g/t Aspacia lode features repetitions both in the hanging wall and immediately to the south of Aspacia and is an opportunity to delineate high-grade, near-surface ounces.

“We are also following up on some prospective geology and high-grade mineralisation between the Lady Shenton and Lady Harriet mines in the ‘link zone’, with three separate zones identified for follow-up drilling.

“The mineral resources within Menzies present a significant opportunity for Brightstar to commercialise and assist funding larger-scale development endeavours underway to create  a genuine WA  gold  producer with meaningful scale through the existing processing infrastructure and resource base.”

While exploration continues, BTR is also busy readying Selkirk for mining in August this year.

Gold processing will be done at the nearby St Barbara (ASX:SBM) Gwalia plant while the company continues to assess the refurbishment of its Laverton processing plant under consultation with contractors GE Engineering and ABGM.
