Energy metals explorer Belararox has identified 11 prospective copper-gold porphyry targets at the Toro-Malambo-Tambo (TMT) base metals project in Argentina’s San Juan Province.

The targets were identified via satellite spectral imagery processed by Fathom Geophysics and the geological interpretation completed by independent hydrothermal systems specialist, Dr Steve Garwin.

The project is located in an area where exploration activities have been closing the underexplored gap between the El Indo Metallogenic Belt, which contains the Veladero and Pascua Lima deposits, and the Maricunga Metallogenic Belt, which contains the Filo del Sol and Josemaria deposits.

Hydrothermal alteration has been used as a vector for deposits in the region, and these newly identified targets are likely to represent surface expressions of high-sulphidation epithermal and/or porphyry-style mineral systems.

They also show similar spectral characteristics to observed hydrothermal alteration and silicification at Filo del Sol, the company says.

Strong first step for porphyry prospectivity

The 11 prospective targets have been ranked for prospectivity, with Tambo South and Malambo the priority, followed by Tambo V.

The company is confident the potential exists for both high-sulphidation epithermal and porphyry-style copper-gold-silver mineralisation in the Tambo South and Tambo V target areas in particular.

“When we first acquired the TMT Project, I said how delighted I was as we expected it to enable BRX to pursue exploration activities in a highly prospective region in Argentina,” Belararox (ASX:BRX) MD Arvind Misra said.

“While we still have a way to go, the identification of 11 prospective targets with surface expressions is a strong first step in the TMT Project meeting our expectations.”

Additional 8 targets to test

There are a total of seven A-class targets and four B-class targets, and as chief technical consultant – Argentina, Jason Ward pointed out, the 8 targets at a lower priority that are still highly prospective for porphyry mineralisation.

“We look forward to following up these targets with geological mapping and sampling once our Environmental Permits are granted,” he said.

The next steps are to upgrade historical data to a level of compliance with the 2012 JORC standard, advance the environmental impact assessment for the project, along with planning exploration field work and mapping and sampling over the project.
