Miramar Resources’ EM survey to refine nickel-copper-PGE targets for drilling at Mount Vernon

  • FLEM surveying to refine targets for future drill testing at the Mount Vernon project in WA’s Gascoyne
  • Miramar Resources will carry out modelling and RC drilling post surveying
  • Historical anomalies at new Trouble Bore licence to be ‘ground checked’

Special Report: Miramar Resources has started a fixed-loop electromagnetic survey at its Mount Vernon nickel-copper-PGE project in WA’s Gascoyne region to refine targets for future drill testing.

Mount Vernon is part of the company’s broader district-scale Bangemall project that is believed to host nickel-copper-PGE mineralisation related to Kulkatharra Dolerite sills, which are part of the Warakurna large igneous province and the same age as the large Nebo and Babel nickel-copper deposits in the West Musgrave.

Previous Versatile Time Domain Electromagnetic (VTEM) surveying carried out by Miramar Resources (ASX:M2R) identified multiple late-time anomalies where a dolerite sill intrudes into sulphidic sediments.

Subsequent reconnaissance rock chip sampling identified coarse-grained sulphides at several locations.

Targets for drill testing

The FLEM survey will test several high-priority VTEM anomalies to refine targets for future drill testing.

These include the Vernon Gap target where a strong late-time VTEM anomaly is seen beneath sulphides in outcropping gabbro and adjacent to significant nickel and copper results in historical sampling.

M2R executive chairman Allan Kelly said Bangemall could host mineralisation like the giant Norilsk deposits in Siberia, a style of mineralisation not previously seen in the state.

“We believe the Bangemall has the potential to be an entirely new nickel province in which we have built a commanding land position, and we look forward to continuing to uncover the potential of this very large project,” he said.

Further work on new prospects

Following completion of the FLEM survey, M2R will carry out modelling and RC drill testing.

It will also complete “ground checking” of historical SkyTEM anomalies at the newly granted Trouble Bore licence, while progressing other tenement applications to grant.

In addition, the company will identify other prospective areas to peg and/or acquire.
