All your lithium news, Wednesday April 12.

Hyundai Motor Group has committed to spend US$18bn into the EV sector as it works towards its goal to become one of the top three EV manufacturers in the world by 2030.

Hyundai’s auto group, which also includes Kia and Genesis, revealed plans to significantly expand annual EV production in Korea to 1.51mn units in conjunction with a global volume target of 3.64mn units by 2030 at a ceremony for Kia’s first designated EV plant on Tuesday.

To enhance the domestic EV production capacity, Kia is building a new plant dedicated to produce EVs, while also expanding the existing EV lines at plants in order to expand the production capacity of EVs.

The Group’s large-scale investment aims to upgrade Korea’s EV ecosystem and strengthen its role as a hub for driving innovation in the global automotive industry.

In addition, the automaker will invest heavily in R&D, such as developing a platform for next-generation EVs, expanding product lineups, developing core parts and advanced technologies, and establishing research facilities.

Hyundai said that by 2030, it expects to have 31 EV models across its suite of brands.

Who’s got news out?

CYGNUS GOLD (ASX:CY5)

Cygnus has acquired the Auclair lithium project from Osisko Development in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada.

Under the revised terms of the transaction, Osisko will take Cygnus shares upfront in lieu of cash, demonstrating its strong support for Cygnus’ lithium strategy.

The ground holding for the Auclair project now sits at 337km2 in a greenstone belt with known pegmatite occurrences and access to excellent access to infrastructure, including all year road access.

PATRIOT LITHIUM (ASX:PAT)

Patriot’s new managing director and CEO, Nicholas Vickery, has commenced his appointment as the company looks to hit the ground running at its ten highly prospective lithium projects in the US and Canada.

“We have made great progress over the past month with significant growth in our highly prospective lithium landholdings, building the exploration team and now look forward to executing exploration activities on the ground,” PAT chairman Phil Thick says.

LOYAL LITHIUM (ASX:LLI)

Loyal Lithium has entered into binding agreements with two independent parties to secure the controlling interest of the Hidden Lake lithium project in Canada.

The binding agreements have been executed with Youssa – to acquire a 60% interest in five claims of the project – and with DG Resource Management – to acquire a 100% interest in one claim.

Patriot Battery Metals (ASX:PMT) will retain 40% of five claims with a joint venture arrangement to be formed with Loyal Lithium.

If completed, the acquisition will result in a formal change of nature for the company, from a gold exploration company to a lithium exploration and development company.

“The acquisition of the Hidden Lake Lithium Project is a game-changer for Loyal Lithium – we are delighted to collaborate with our new joint venture partner, Patriot Battery Metals, and bring a fresh approach to this remarkable spodumene project,” LLI managing director Adam Ritchie says.

LATIN RESOURCES (ASX:LRS)

Latin Resources has flagged yet more high-grade results from resource definition drilling at its Salinas Lithium project in Brazil – providing a nice boost to the company’s confidence in a ‘significant’ resource upgrade in June.

Mineralisation has now been defined over an area of one kilometre by one kilometre to a depth of 400m below surface and the pegmatite swarm remains open in all directions and at depth.

LRS says it is on track to close off its drilling database in mid-May to enable the JORC resource estimation process to begin in June.
