Canada’s mining industry registered a flat growth in IT hiring activity in October 2022 when compared with the previous month, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database.

The industry’s overall hiring is decreased by 2.49% in October 2022 when compared with September 2022.

Out of the mining industry’s total hiring activity, IT jobs claimed a 5.04% share in October 2022, recording a decrease of 0.36% over the last three-month average share.

Top five job classifications in Canada’s mining industry’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

Out of the total job titles, the top five roles commanded a 100% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry in October 2022.

1) Database and Network Administrators and Architects recorded a share of 54.35% in October 2022, registering a 257.14% growth over the previous month.

2) Computer and Information Analysts claimed a 19.57% share, an increase of 350% over the previous month.

3) Miscellaneous Computer Occupations held a share of 15.22%, registering a 40% rise from September 2022.

4) Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers captured a share of 10.87%, down 64.29% over the previous month.

Top five mining companies in Canada’s IT recruitment activity in October 2022

The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, have accounted for a combined average growth of 93.75% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of Canada’s mining industry during October 2022 over September 2022.

Teck Resources posted 12 IT jobs in October 2022 and registered a rise of 9.09% over the previous month, followed by Vale with 7 jobs and a 600% growth. American Iron & Metal Co with 5 IT jobs and Teck Coal with 4 jobs, recorded a flat growth and a flat growth, respectively, while BHP recorded a flat growth with 3 job postings during October 2022.

Junior Level job postings dominate in October 2022

Junior Level jobs held a share of 60.87%, up by 55.56% from September 2022. Mid Level positions with a 28.26% share, registered an increase of 116.67% compared with the previous month.

In the third place was Entry Level job ads with a 10.87% share, down 44.44% over September 2022.
