All your lithium news, Friday October 28.
Although demand for EVs is expected to grow significantly through to 2032, Fastmarkets says BRM supply will be able to support that demand.
“It is going to be tight and supply-demand balances will go slightly negative in the second half of decade but overall, the combination of investment, expanded production, new projects, evolving technology, and an emerging recycling market is forecast to support EVs and other battery demand through 2032,” the agency says.
But while global supply is expected to meet global demand, that equilibrium masks structural challenges in Europe and the US.
“Regionally sourced supply is not expected to meet regional demand, even with planned projects and government policies like the recent American Battery Materials Initiative,” Fastmakets says.
“In 2032, Europe will represent 25% of lithium demand, but will contribute only 4% of global lithium supply – likewise, the US will represent 8% of demand, but only 6% of global lithium supply.”

Who’s got news out?
GREEN TECHNOLOGY METALS (ASX:GT1)
GT1 has secured an early win at its Root project in Ontario, Canada, with inaugural diamond drilling intersecting thick, continuous high-grade spodumene pegmatites from surface.
Notable results from the first nine holes in the Phase 1 diamond drilling program are 12.4m at 1.77% Li2O from a down-hole depth of 11.8m (RL-22-001), 15.3m at 1.2% Li2O from 42.2m (RL-22-002), and 11.5m at 2.03% Li2O from 72m (RL-22-003).
All 19 holes drilled to date on the McCombe lithium-caesium-tantalum pegmatite system within the project have intersected spodumene bearing pegmatites – a strong indicator that the company is very much on the right track in its goal to delineate a maiden resource.
PATHFINDER RESOURCES (ASX:PF1)
Pathfinder has entered into binding agreements to acquire a portfolio of critical mineral exploration assets.
PF1 says it will explore for critical battery and semi-conductor minerals across the Falcon Lake Lithium Project in Canada, Tidlili Copper Project in Morocco and Austrian Bleiberg Zinc-Lead-Germanium Project.
“Today’s announcement marks a significant change in direction for PF1 as a business,” Pathfinder non-executive director Robert Martin says.
“We are now truly focusing all our efforts and energy towards the revolutionary battery age and armed with a suite of highly prospective projects, we are positioning ourselves extremely well to contribute in a meaningful way towards the energy transition.”
Exploration efforts will initially focus on the Ontario-based Falcon Lake lithium project where it plans to play a meaningful part in the Ford government’s “Ontario’s Critical Minerals Strategy 2022–2027” which will secure Ontario’s position as a global leader of responsibly sourced critical minerals.
Ex Pilbara Minerals (ASX:PLS) project manager Gerard O’Donovan has also been appointed to chief executive officer with close to 15 years’ experience managing large-scale construction and mining development projects.
LITHIUM POWER INTERNATIONAL (ASX:LPI)
LPI has entered into definitive binding agreements to consolidate 100% ownership of the Maricunga Lithium Brine project in Chile via two all-scrip mergers with its joint venture partners, Minera Salar Blanco SpA (31.31% of Maricunga) and Bearing Lithium Corp (17.14% of Maricunga).
“LPI will benefit from enhanced scale and full control of Maricunga,” the company said.
“This will significantly increase LPI’s attributable production to 15.2ktpa of battery grade lithium carbonate from Maricunga based on the 2022 definitive feasibility study.”
